Gastrointestinal Disease is a Type of Diseases That Causes Gastroenteritis 

What is Gastroenteritis?

  • This applies to ALL diseases that cause inflammation of the digestive system, whether infectious or non-infectious. 
    • Infectious diseases such as typhoid and cholera 
    • Non-infectious disorders such as food intolerance 
  • The main symptom is diarrhoea

Diarrhoeal diseases are the main killers of young children, especially in poorer parts of the world. 

The intestines become inflamed and stop absorbing water. The result is a watery faeces.

Prevention of Gastrointestinal / Diarrhoeal Diseases

(These are actions that reduce the microbes that cause the disease)
  • Drink water from safe (clean) sources 
  • Boil or sterilise water from unsafe sources 
  • Use hygiene when preparing food, such as keeping hands clean and using clean utensils.
